Changes to Performance Measures
As well as the changes to GCSEs, the Government is also changing the way students’ and schools’ attainment and achievement are measured. Up until 2015 all schools were measured by the familiar 5 A* to C, including English and Maths. However from 2016 this will change and will be replaced by the following four measures:
- Attainment 8 – the average grade achieved by a year group – this will be shown as a grade, such as B+
- Progress 8 – how much progress a cohort has made – shown as a number, such as +1.0 (one grade above expectation)
- Percentage of students gaining the Ebacc
- Percentage of students gaining a good grade in GCSE English and Maths.
